Chegobon
A moment to unwind in the city.
Tucked into a basement near Kawaguchi Station, Chegobon serves comforting Korean classics morning to night, from bubbling sundubu chigae and beef tendon stews to cheese dak-galbi sets.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Stepping down into the basement of a building in Honcho, Kawaguchi, diners find Chegobon, an unpretentious Korean kitchen filled with the aroma of bubbling hotpots. The soups are a natural starting point. Sundubu chigae combines silken tofu with clams and vegetables in a broth that balances gentle heat with savoury depth, ideal over steamed white rice. For a richer bowl, the beef tendon stew draws deep sweetness from slowly simmered beef tendon and vegetables, while samgyetang—a nourishing whole-chicken soup stuffed with rice and medicinal herbs—offers a warming alternative.
Sautéed meats are equally central to the menu. The cheese dak-galbi set coats spicy-marinated chicken thigh in melted cheese, while the bulgogi set tosses sliced beef and vegetables in a mild, soy-based sauce; both robust choices that pair naturally with rice. Diners can also round out a meal by sharing dishes such as refreshing mul-naengmyeon or bibim-naengmyeon, springy japchae noodles, and crisp seafood or cheese jeon pancakes.
With counter seats alongside regular tables, Chegobon accommodates solo diners dropping in for a quick lunch of soup and set rice meals as easily as small groups settling in over an evening spread.
